1. Changing the power setting

The first thing to notice in your laptop is power setting if you are using "power saver" mode then you are slowing down your laptop. it will reduce your system performance to save energy.

changing this from "Better battery" to "Best performance" or "Better performance" will increase the performance instantly.

to do this, you don't need to go for control panel just click the battery icon in the taskbar
if it is in better battery change it to the best performance, note this will consume more power if you are using this at home I recommend you to plugin and use if you are using unplugged use better performance by this way you can increase your laptop speed.

2. Cleaning hard disk and Temporary files

Cleaning the hard disk and cache time to time is the best practice that will save your laptop from slowing down, it will boost the speed.

Go to This PC right click on C drive > Properties>Disk cleanup after this click ok to clean up if you updated your windows recently then click on clean up system files it will clean windows update as you can see in below image there is 4GB of the old update file is there which will consume a lot of space and slowdowns system.

There is another built-in feature in windows that is Storage sense.

Go to Setting> system > storage then click on "configure storage sense and run it " there you can see at the top of the corner toggle from off to on if it is off.

when you do this windows automatically deletes the old junk you don't need temporary files and old recycle bin .here you can also choose how often to clean the recycle bin and option to clean the download folder files if you are not using.

There is another way of cleaning temporary files by looking into folders like temp,%temp%, and prefetch.

Press Windows + R then type  %temp% and click ok now select all files from that folder and delete if it cannot delete some files just press skip it, this will clear all unwanted files from your system and increase speed.

do this same for prefetch, and temp.

3. Disable Startup programs

Another thing that causes your windows 10 laptop may feel sluggish is that you are running so many programs in the background that you rarely use or never use. disable them to run your laptop smoothly.

First, open the taskbar then press ctrl+shift+esc it will open the taskbar then navigate to startup tab there you will see list of programs that automatically launches when you start the windows, which will impact the startup time of windows.

to stop this just right click on the program and disable it, remember this will not entirely disable this program it will just stop running when windows startup you can run these programs whenever you want if you want these program to run in a startup you can enable it going to the taskbar.

4. Pause One Drive syncing

Microsoft's OneDrive file storage is built into windows 10 this will keep all your files synced and up to date so that even if your system, hard disk fails you can easily recover all your files from OneDrive.

This will constantly sync all your files time to time so this will cause your windows slow, stop this syncing to speed up your windows.

In the taskbar right corner right-click on OneDrive icon then click on Help  & Setting there you can see pause syncing option choose whether to pause syncing for 2 hours,8, or 24 hours depending on how long you want to pause.

5. Disable animations, shadows, and visual effects

windows have some nice animations, shadows, and visual effects for better user experience in a faster or new laptop, this will not affect much but this will have a great effect on windows performance.

It's easier to resolve this by going to the search box and type sysdm.cpl, it will launch the system properties click on advance tab click on settings under performance section that opens another dialogue box that shows the list of effects uncheck what you don't need to click on apply and then ok now you can see better performance.

It's even better if you choose "Adjust for better performance" so windows will automatically turn off unnecessary effects which slowdowns the laptop.

6. Disable Transparency

You can notice transparent effects In the taskbar this will make windows work a lot to create these effects. I recommend disabling these effects also if you want additional speed performance.

Right-click on desktop > personalize > this will open the settings > colours there you can see transparency option just turn it off.

7. Optimizing disk (defrag)

Lot of you utilize your hard disc, a lot of it will become fragmented, which may hamper your computer. once a disk gets fragmented, it stores files every way across it, and it takes a moment for Windows to place them along before running them.

Windows 10, though, features an inbuilt defragmenter you'll use to defragment your hard disc. you'll even tell it to run mechanically thus it stays always defragmented.

To do it, type defrag into the search box and press Enter. a dialogue box will appear, choose the drive you would like you would like to defragment(mainly C drive). Click the Optimize button to defragment it. choose multiple disks by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking every you would like to defragment. this way, you can speed up the performance.

windows give you tips and suggestions about the operating system by scanning the whole laptop, this will have a major impact on system performance it's better to stop it.

Go to settings > system > notifications and actions > uncheck the tips, tricks ,suggestions

9. Speed up using the command prompt

file operations on windows use a limited pool of kernel buffers if these buffers are filled up it cannot accept another file operations, this may slow down you system performance.

this buffer usage can be extended using command prompt on windows

1. go to start menu type CMD > run as administrator then type  below mention code

step 1: copy and paste this command
Fsutil behavior query memoryusage{codeBox}
step 2: copy and paste this command and hit enter
Fsutil behavior set memoryusage 2{codeBox}

10. Update windows frequently

Microsoft frequently releases updates for Windows 10 that are designed to repair common bugs that cut back system performance. a number of these are fairly minor whereas others make vital changes to your system, maximizing potency.

If any major updates available on your windows then backup all your personnel data and then do update. it needs to restart several times and hours for major update completion.

I recommend you to keep your windows always up to date as it fixes many of your problems by just updating windows.

11.Ready boost to speed up caching

Windows stores cached data in hard disk and when it needs it fetches from there. the time to fetch it from there depends on your hard disk if you are using an HDD than SDD there is a way to speed up the cache.

USe "windows Ready boost" feature it tells windows to cache data to a USB flash drive which is faster than hard disk and speed up windows.

Plug-in USB flash drive which supports at least 2.0,(3.0) or faster recommended, the more speed is flash drive the more speed you see, also see that is double than your RAM size for even better performance.

Go to THIS PC and right-click on USB and go to properties and click READY BOOST
make it "Dedicate this device to ReadyBoost".
Click on APPLY and OK. that's all.

Now as you use your laptop, ReadyBoost can begin filling the cache with files, thus you will notice a rise in disk activity. counting on what quantity you employ your computer, it will take a number of days for your cache to fill and supply most improved performance. If you don’t see a rise in performance, attempt a flash disk with additional capability.

 Restart (Reboot)

restarting windows is also a very important thing if your laptop running slow, after software installation, if the device is very hot, or it is making heavy noise.

The main advantage of restarting laptop is it flushes RAM, stops memory leak, fixes internet connection and fixes many more problems so whenever goes wrong first restart your laptop it might fix with no effort.
